generic random update

Been a week, what can I say... Found out last week that I landed a second job, this one as a pharmacy tech at the Walgreens in Florence. It's a drive, but I'm less likely to be shot. :-) I walked in two weeks ago to complete my application and the hiring manager happened to be there that day, and so I got to complete my interview, and got the bona fide offer of employment (ie, she handed me a form to get my drug test done and we talked pay rates.) Friday, she called me to ask when I wanted to start. I said next Tues, and so this week on my off days I've been doing training at the new job. It'll be some great experience, I'll be able to work more hands on with the drugs and also get a closer look at the departments of Hades, more commonly known as Insurance companies.
Week in review
Sat: worked 7a-3p on my old floor at St. Luke West, got to see and hang with some old co-workers and friends, which was very nice. At 3, I had to translocate myself to St. Luke East (20 min. away) for the 3-7 shift. It went ok nonetheless. Despite the fact it was on 4 hrs of sleep. Most fun about being sent to west was that they called me at 5:20 am to tell me this. Usually when my phone rings at 5:20 it's them calling me to tell me to stay home. So it was a rather bittersweet moment. Sunday, I wound up working a double instead of my usual 7a-7p, and they offered to let me stay home Monday morning. Actually a good deal, as it's hard to be coherent with less than 8 hrs of turn around. I knew there was a reason why I don't want to be an MD (read RESIDENCY! at least the hospital gives those poor saps a cot to catch 40 winks on. I'm doing good if I can nab a chair and a blanket.) However, 10:30, my boss calls me and says, It's totally your option, but we really need you to come in early if you can. We do need you 3-7. So I offered to come in at 1 instead of 3 to help out. Worked till 7, came home, got things together for new job the next day. Was there for a few hours, came home, got some errands done, went to church for a tour of the new building and an update on how the projects are going. That was so totally awesome. I got home, and figured it was about time to take out the trash in my car. Took my keys out of the ignition, scooped up a bunch of cans and other crap, walked over to the dumpster and threw the whole lot in. Including my keys. At 10 pm. Into a mostly full dumpster. Immediately began fasting and praying. After a few sweat filled moments of frantically searching my pockets and car and the path between me and the dumpster, and a few attempts at gently pawing through a large pile of stinking garbage, I heard a light jingle of metal against metal. I reached toward the sound very carefully so as not to knock anything farther away, and found my keys. Thank God.
Wens was a full day of work, followed by an awesome church service. Baptism night at Crossroads, about 30 people made a physical demonstration that God has changed and taken over their lives, and just after finishing a short sermon on Acts 8: 26-40, this dude stands up and hollers "BRIAN!" a little shocked, my pastor goes "WHAT!?" The man replies, "My wife and my daughters and my friend wish to be baptized tonight." The man went on to quote from the same passage "What prevents us from being baptized?" Having thrown out his excuse, Brian says to come on down. After these four, two more individuals come down, randomly. Now, as great and spontaneous as my church tends to be, this kind of thing has never happened. Shoot, we have a hard time getting 25% of the crowd to clap. It was a pretty spectacular night.
Thurs wound up being pretty average, just another day at work, but from 3-11 instead of 7a-7p. And today, about 7 mind-numbing hours of working my way through my computer training for the pharm tech position, followed by dinner with DJ and watching a few scrubs episodes, and the totally infrequent update of my lj. And tomorrow, we have Habitat for humanity in the morning, some quick shopping to see if I can find the last little bits of the costume I've finally decided on. What it'll be called, I have no clue. Don't think I'll have to shave the goatee this year though. Not sure why that's important to me this year, but there it is. Anyway. Bedtime.
